The Evil Parrot has left the Blogger

I know it has been some time since I wrote on this blog. And it seemed like at any moment, I would have closed it down and fluttered away. Life's funny that way. It was only until I came across several sites linking several of my posts to some of their write ups. I was flattered, flabbergasted and just bloody smashed. So now, of course, I can't shut it down. However, I no longer like the whole Blogger setup and has jumped ship to Wordpress. Enter: The Mental Closet of An Evil Parrot 2.0. In case you missed it, that is the link you (and that is referring to the last two people actually reading this site) can click on to visit my blog with all its boring ramblings and other unsightly bollocks. To all my mates at Blogger. Love you, and thanks for the ride. Cheerio.

Dance music has finally come to NYC

Here's the deal, mates. I am an easygoing bloke and takes very little to keep me content and bloody ecstatic. For the last few months, I've ventured past 92.3 (which USED to be KROCK) to (gasp!!!) lower and came across a cool station called Pulse 87 (87.7 on the dial). After hearing groups such as Lasgo, Dirty Vegas, Dj Encore and BT ... all within a few hours, I was a bit flabbergasted. The last time I heard anything close to this ear nectar was during my stay in Florida, listening to Party 93.1. I hated leaving Florida to come back to NYC because I really thought that their dance scene was bloody fantastic. At the time, the only hope for dance music resided in the hallowed halls of KTU-FM which apparently couldn't make up their mind as whether they should be a dance, hip-hop or 70s disco station. So I was confined to what I could hear over the net and on my MP3 players. And then Pulse 87 came along. Needless to say, NYC seems a bit more interesting. And to the folks at KTU ... please take note because that's how a bloody DANCE station should sound like.

Geocities dies and an era ends

I know it has been awhile since scribbled on my blog and I may have lost my readers. Sorry folks, I have too many obligations these days, workwise and academically-speaking. As I was going through my email I came across a bit of news on the BBC World News website about Yahoo pulling the plug on Geocities. It is a bit saddening, sort of like hearing an old friend passing away. Back in the late 90s, my first crack web designing began with free webhosting sites. Aye, I didn't have enough quid to afford the astronomical costs of web hosting back then so to develop any sort of web presence, blokes like me relied heavily on free webhosting sites such as Angelfire, Tripod and yes, Geocities. I am grateful to the folks at these webhosting alcoves for giving a lot of us a much needed break at putting our stuff out on the web. Sure we had to put up with ridiculous ad scripts that pretty much bollocksed up our design ... but then again ... it was FREE!!! Of course the blame has fallen on the proliferation of social networking sites and their growing membership ... and yes, the fact that membership signups for Geocities has declined.
And yes, webhosting and domain registration has become wickedly affordable where most folks are opting to own their own piece of the web rather than renting it and having to deal with ads. It is indeed, the end (or signalling of the end)of an era.

Geocities, for what its worth ... thanks mates ... and happy trails, old chap.

Night Tracks Flashback Fridays: The Flame by Cheap Trick

It was the winter of '88 and I had just landed in America. I had lost all my high school mates (and a really cool girlfriend) and I was in a whole new world. It was during our stay at this home I heard this song on WPLJ 95.5 and for some reason I remember listening to it so intently. I don't know why. Sometimes at my high school, I would stare out the windows on those cold days and sing this song to myself. Aye, for some reason, every time I hear Cheap Trick's "The Flame" I remember that first very cold winter of my life. Great times. Awesome music.

Happy New Years mates

Hello to the few people left reading this sad blog (and I thank you both), it has been quite some time and according to my last posting - election day. Quite historic, isn't it? Well, I'm presently at crossroads with this blog. It is possible that sometime this is year is when I'll reach my last wits with it. Aye, I know some blokes use that as tactic to get folks to come to their blog. Sorry, mates but I've got a lot on my plate. There's grad school, my under-construction website, my manuscripts that I so want to finish and publish, and the list goes on. So who knows. I've already had to say goodbye to fellow bloggers that I started this journey with. Oh well, we'll see. So until that day, a Happy and Prosperous New year to all with great health and wondrous tidings.
